Mary Thirsk Award

Mary Thirsk worked tirelessly for twenty years as the principal Coordinator for the North Shore Stroke Recovery Centre. She was also a Board member of the Stroke Recovery Association of BC.

Under Mary’s guidance, our membership grew dramatically requiring the addition of two extra meeting days per week. As well, policy manuals were written and procedures put into place, a strong working relationship with Lions Gate Hospital was established, our profile in the community was heightened, major funding was procured, the program was fine-tuned and professional therapists were hired to provide therapy.

As a tribute to Mary, commencing in 2001, an annual award is presented at our summer luncheon to a stroke survivor, caregiver or volunteer that has made a significant contribution to the North Shore Stroke Recovery Centre during that calendar year.
